I would suggest 3 more tips -
1. The ecombination of the key phrases to one long tail key phrase.
2. variation of the key phrases (based on the Google KW results).
3. then, slightly change the key phrase over the entire article..

Thanks for the update, Steve. We have a subscription to semrush.com (we were beta users, too) and we find it is very helpful, if not 100% accurate.

Since you wrote this post SEO Digger has closed and has been superseded by http://www.semrush.com. but to be honest I find Semrush's figures somewhat wrong when I try to get some results based on my site the data they return is somewhat different to googles web master tools. If I was going to research the long-tail I would opt for wordtracker over Semrush

The Google Keyword tool has definitely made a different to the way I do my keyword research. The data from word tracker is all for the USA so as a marketing company in South Africa knowing the number of South African searches is priceless. I have see SEO Digger but have not used it before. I will go and check it out to understand your strategy.

Thank you for sharing.

I had been looking for a keyword analysis tool to use and it looks like the Google tool is where it's at now.

I was watching a SEO tutorial made a few years ago by Lynda.com. The narrator and teacher at that time used a Yahoo overture tool to find keyword statistics. It gave an exact # like 31,242 for "cool movies" for example.

It would be cool if the google tool told you the exact # of search rather than a rounded estimate. They COULD but they DON'T! pfft

I'm enjoying your articles! Thanks for the great advice. - Jason
