Why Article Writing is Still a Good Idea for SEO

Written on January 11, 2011 – 12:12 am | by Guest Author |

Article Writing for SEO BenefitsArticle writing. for SEO and better Internet marketing, is one of the major promotional tools for getting your website known to search engines, to the world wide web community and to your target audience.  There are a number of reasons why this is the case and we shall be going into some of them, but the key point to take away from this piece is that good article writing is the cost-effective cornerstone of website promotion.

You also should understand that articles need to be relevant, well-written and provide real help and advice for readers if they, and by extension you, are to be taken seriously and for the strategy to work properly, i.e. gaining SEO benefits.

Credibility and the “Expert” Reputation

A major issue in generating sales through the web is credibility; many websites have a credibility issue simply because they are on the web, and this is more acute if they have no real world presence.  By writing on your area of expertise and in particular, by providing insight and advice on how to tackle customer problems, you are building a reputation as being a “trusted” source of information.  As human beings, we are prone to believe what is written more than what is said – we believe what is typed more than what is handwritten, and most of all, we read what is published either as a newspapers piece or as a book, most of all.

Article writing taps into this human belief very effectively and is powerful persuader, providing your articles are well-written, relevant and actually provide constructive help and advice.  Writing articles will quickly give you “expert” status and the credibility which goes with that title.

Improving Backlinks

Articles are an excellent source for generating backlinks to your website or blog.  If you write articles which are truly original and relevant, ideally providing some unique insight into an issue or problem which readers are likely to have, then you will find it is rapidly adopted by other web sites and blog commentaries with backlinks to your website.

While you control the quality of the article, you have little control over who reads it – if your article is read by a major web site, such as Twitter, Google or Amazon, then chances are that if they like what you have to say they will publish it on their own site, with a backlink to you – how much is such a link worth to you?  Clearly a great deal, but if you simply knocked on their door and asked for a link to begin with, you’re probably going to be ignored!

Effective Keyword Strategy & Control

Keywords and key phrases form the fulcrum around which SEO strategies revolve; by identifying and optimizing on specific sets of keywords, you can improve your search engine rankings and with that comes a flood of traffic.  More traffic means more conversions and more sales.

Articles allow you to integrate keywords into a broader campaign to get your site noticed by both human surfers and the search engines.  At the same time, you control what is written and where it is distributed to so you can manipulate keywords to best suit your online marketing strategies.  By writing a range of articles focusing on different sets of keywords, you get a broader level of penetration into the consciousness of readers and search engines as well as developing more backlinks to your main website.

By submitting articles to established article directories you also increase the level of traffic and awareness of your website which in turn, will further improve your rankings with the search engines.

Summary

Readers want good content – content which is engaging and either intrigues and interests them or provides solid help and advice on issues they may have.  “Puff” pieces do not amount to much in SEO terms; you should focus on substance because this will have greater impact, be more widely read and more likely to return your investment to you.  Articles are not simply about stuffing keywords into some text in the hope this will fool the search engines, your articles need to be written in a professional style so they make sense to human readers and not simply the search engine spiders.

Stay on topic, write in good English and write with passion and flair – this way you will engage readers and keep them coming back for more.

There are some good article marketing sites out there (such as ezine), and good articles not only that can make you an “expert” but can get more visitors on your site.

I’m a huge proponent of this theory. I believe that writing a blog (if you know what you’re talking about) is a way to develop your expertise in a public forum.

If you’re looking for a job in this industry in particular, most companies have no idea if you’re an expert or not. This is a good way to put yourself ahead of others who may be your equal but do not have a blog in which they position themselves as experts.

I also agree that the social sharing aspect of blogging drives backlinks – which drives SEO – which drives rankings up.

    Good stuff!

Articles are a very good idea still but I am finding that my articles are being abused. I have set up Google Alerts to track when my articles get indexed elsewhere. I am finding a lot of the articles are being uploaded under different authors and the links removed. People like that are ruining it for everyone else.

Your article tells the truth about SEO. It is very important to provide good information and provide content that people want to read.

Article marketing is a very effective strategy to use for bringing traffic to your website or blog. There is one ezine website that I regularly submit articles to. It is very effective in bringing traffic to my website.

My downfall is that I am not good at keyword placement. I tend to give up on that and focus on writing useful, truthful and accurate content and gain traffic by reaching out to others online.

yeah it’s true that article writing still rules when it comes to SEO world. It’s a great help to increase traffic but before that you should write a good content, good english to keep them coming back for more. BUT FOR ME, I don’t know the rules of grammar… If you’re trying to persuade people to do something, or buy something, it seems to me you should use their language, the language they use every day, the language in which they think. We try to write in the vernacular. This might get up the noses of those of you who are a little more particular about grammar (and I do thank you for your continued daily emails pointing out my mistakes), but I think there’s something powerful about this. Write your blog posts in the way that you’d actually speak to them if they were in the chair opposite you. Use language that communicates most clearly with them—even when it might not be the Queen’s English.

Article writing has been and always will be the best methods of link building for SEO. You are doing everything that search engines want when you write articles. You are feeding the search engines content, your are getting relative backlinks and you are playing by the rules. Just remember to also use other link building activities to create a variation of all links types. This is sometimes overlooked but is very important. Just don’t use one link building method incorporate multiple methods in your link building and you will see your listing rise through the serps.

I’ve actually found that article marketing is still a very good way to drive targeted traffic but it isn’t nearly as powerful as it used to be. Now, it seems that everyone and their mothers are trying to capitalize on this type of marketing. Although it still works, I find that you need to leverage your article marketing efforts with press release marketing and Yahoo Answers marketing. Press releases gets you exposure and traffic and Yahoo Answers gets you targeted traffic and helps you establish yourself as the expert in the field. When these two methods are combined with article marketing, it is VERY powerful indeed.

Article marketing is a type of advertising in which businesses write short articles related to their respective industry. These articles are made available for distribution and publication in the marketplace. Thanks for sharing this information related to article marketing on article snatch.

Article writing is great, not the best but certainly must be a part of anyone’s plan online.

Content has to be very substantial for it to help your web rankings, because Google has stepped up restrictions as far as relevance is concerned. Content farms that offer little to no value are targeted.

Great post thanks, Articles are an important part of any SEO strategy. However Google and the article distribution sites are becoming very strict. Many have increased their minimum words and scrutinise the articles more closely to avoid the growing number of automated mass produced articles.

Shell, if there is one statement that holds true it’s what I’d pinpoint as your thesis on this piece, “good article writing is the cost-effective cornerstone of website promotion”. Well said statement and great argument. I agree 100% with you!

Jacob, a blog is a great tool but it lacks the benefit of a community. For those who cannot devote a lot of time to writing, it is only good for search engine traffic. Visitors loose interest, if fresh and engaging content is not added each day. When a Blog writer doesn’t write, nobody can pickup the slack. Many argue this is also a benefit to Search Engine Opt. Daily content keeps them spiders returning for Article Directories.

@increase seo rankings: Articles will still inflate Social Media Marketing. The more articles floating around the more potential the Author has for pinging around the Social networks. For example, I’m about to tweet this article!

As for me, I still make articles for my search engine optimization action plan. it still improves traffic and can still improve sales(if you are into article marketing). Together with articles I use advancedwebads’s unlimited banner impressions and click service to double the great results.

Your spot on! Article writing is about so much more than just keyword stuffing.

You also need to keep your reader interested, and use the opportunity to preframe them for what you are writing about, be it an offer, a service or just adding value.

An informative and well written post about this essential topic Article Marketing! Over some time I have found myself giving more and more marketing time to the art. Becoming an expert on a topic creates trust with your potential customers, and articles are excellent for building backlinks. When it comes to keywords, I have found the long tailed working best.

Well, as for me,Article writing is great idea and part of link baiting service,

It’s also important that the page where your article and link is on will be indexed with the search engines. So check how many pages of the article directory are actually listed on the search engine, before you pick one to submit.
