Sphinn – Search & Internet Marketing Professional Website

sphinnUpdate (8/13/07): I Sphunn my first story today on Squidoo. We’ll see what happens. See my Squidoo Sphinn.

I joined Sphinn today and found a few hours of my time were soon gone. It is fascinating reading, especially so because I consider this very informative site built by the ideas and comments of my peers. If you are interested in Internet marketing, and I assume you are if you are reading my SEO blog, then I would say it is worth 30 minutes to read some posts and see what you think. The best and the brightest are there, of course you will also find too many people who are ignorant and/or just taking up valuable bandwidth. For now though, it looks like a promising site. Think of it as Digg for Search Marketers.

Here is the origin of the domain name:

Why Sphinn? We liked the idea of a place where marketers could put their own “spin” on news by commenting on stories or having discussions. But spin.com was taken, as was spinn.com and sphinnn.com was a N too far, we felt. So we went with sphinn.com, pronouncing it “sp-hinn.”

Sphinn away!

Wow, that is a sweet site. It looks like a social bookmarking mixture of a voting site with an awesome layout. I just wasted about an hour their too. Thanks for the cool link, neat find!

I think this Sphinn is supposed to be the new youtube equivalent for an older crowd of news aficionados less interested in hype and crude humor and more interested in blogging and humorous or interesting news. It was fun to find out via Sphinn that Google’s blog search website temporarily deleted its own site from its blogosphere mistaking it for spam…funny stories…

Great find Shell, but you need to read between the lines of how they chose the domain name…

Why Sphinn? We liked the idea of a place where marketers could put their own “spin” on news by commenting on stories or having discussions. But spin.com was taken, as was spinn.com and sphinnn.com was a N too far, we felt. And since we made a rip-off digg site, of course we had to copy the double letter thing too, come on. So we went with sphinn.com, pronouncing it “sp-hinn.”

Good point, Chris. But I guess if you are going to rip somebody off, it should be the best.

I like the Sphinn site to an extent, but its not easy to navigate and find your own posts. It’s very hard to get anything noticed. It’s a great site if you have a high traffic site and only promote the Sphinn book mark, but I wouldn’t want to do that.

Internet marketing has really created a wild fire among youngsters and house-wives. House-wives especially since the craze of blogging also came in, they spend their time now on children, television soaps and internet marketing

Internet marketing is a big, confusing industry filled with hype-driven sales pitches. Occasionally you do find the gems; that great ebook or software that will change the way you make money online forever!

The difficult part is to brush aside the hype and find the ones that are really worth your time

Great article. I guess the only difference between a traditional marketer and an internet marketer is that traditional marketer talk and internet marketers listen

Sometimes internet marketer thinks that visitors get attracted to the web and the products just because the webmaster is qualified enough to draw people, but that is not the thing. Visitors only get attracted to the products that will benefit them in any way.
